Corpus Christi School Named National Blue Ribbon School
One of only 50 private schools awarded nationwide
Wethersfield, CT, [September 7, 2012] Corpus Christi School today announced that it has been named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today recognized 269 schools as 2012 National Blue Ribbon Schools based on their overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels.
Corpus Christi School was recognized in the category of “Exemplary High Performing.” These schools are recognized among their state’s highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests. Last year, Corpus Christi students, on average, scored at or above the 95th percentile nationally in the recently completed Iowa Tests of Basic Skills.
Corpus Christi School educates over 380 students from 27 different towns. Recent graduates have gone on to continue their education at both locally and nationally competitive high schools like Choate Rosemary Hall, Loomis Chaffee, Kingswood Oxford, Miss Porter’s School, Xavier, Mercy, Northwest Catholic, and East Catholic High Schools.
“I can’t tell you how proud we are to be awarded Blue Ribbon status,” said Corpus Christi School Principal Eileen Sampiere. “This is a tribute to our hard-working students, supportive parents, and dedicated faculty and staff.” Principal Sampiere feels that this is a great way to begin the school year and is determined to continue on this path of excellence. “We were recognized as being an exemplary high performing school and we are committed to remain a high achieving school.” She also noted that besides having strong test scores, Corpus Christi School offers students a well-rounded program with many extracurricular activities such as concert and jazz band, dramatic arts, visual arts, athletics, and student government and civic engagement.
Corpus Christi Pastor, Fr. Shawn Daly echoed the principal’s feelings, “What a great day for the Corpus Christi community. Catholic education is a partnership of home, school and parish. We have a proud past and an exciting future and I am honored to be part of this amazing community. We all have a reason to celebrate this great accomplishment.”
The Department will honor approximately 219 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on Nov. 12-13 in Washington, D.C. In its 30-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on nearly 7,000 of America’s schools.
